Arte, Ardore, Onore: the World of Swordplay
On this page I am very happy to present my first short documentary
"Arte, Onore, Ardore: the World of Swordplay" (2011, 10min) Produced, directed, shot and edited by Tatiana Balashova Executive producer: Annat Kennet Featuring: Devon Boorman, Lilly Milroy, and other teachers and students of Academie Duello. This film was done as a diploma work at Langara College. The film won Moving Images Distribution Award at the Vancouver Women in Film Festival 2012 (it was the first public screening, followered by a few screenings in Vancouver) Short Synopsis: A glimpse into the world of swordplay through the eyes of a courageous, decisive girl and Maestro D'Armi. Lilly is a young swordplayer who is taking part in the Kids Knight Camp for the forth time. She takes her hobby very seriously, striving to become a knight. Meanwhile Devon (director and instructor of the Academie Duello Swordplay Centre) shares main myths about swordplay, some secrets of rapier fighting as well as what inspires his passion for swordplay. "The main heroine Lilly embodies the image of a contemporary girl/ would-be woman who is chooses her interests and path in life. Being interested in many different things - dance, painting and swordplay, she sets the goals clearly, and is doing her best to achieve them while having fun with it and takes pride in her successes. If becoming a knight is a goal for Lilly, it could be anything else for another person. Whichever dream you strive for, it's worth living for." |
